Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking a Polymer Rheologist to join the Polymer Science Group within the Research & Technology organization in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The role requires training and experience in applying rheology techniques to characterize polyethylene and other polymeric materials. The group engages in R&D on polymer characterization, rheology, processing, stabilization, finishing, and structure-property-processing relationships.

Provide expert technical support to groups and customers solving challenges with polyethylene resins and products using rheology-based techniques. Participate in research and product development projects, as well as support manufacturing and pilot plant activities. Actively maintain and troubleshoot rheometers while improving laboratory capability and productivity.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in polymer science (chemistry or physics), polymer engineering, or materials science and engineering with at least 2 years of industry experience
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience and/or training in polyolefin and/or other polymer characterization using rheology techniques
  • Sound theoretical knowledge in polymer rheology
  • Strong experimental skills in rheology techniques including dynamic, capillary, and extensional rheology
  • Proven expertise in polyolefin characterization
  • Relevant training and experiences in applying different rheology techniques to polyethylene and/or other polymeric materials

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in safety and participate in safety, environmental, and sustainability initiatives
  • Actively participate in maintenance and troubleshooting of rheometers and rheology laboratory logistics
  • Constantly strive to improve capability and productivity of the rheology laboratory
  • Provide training to research technicians on data collection, processing, archival, and instrument maintenance
  • Work with pilot plant and manufacturing engineers to identify root-cause of off-spec products and find solutions
  • Develop rheology test methods to solve product development challenges
  • Support multidisciplinary groups in securing and defending patents
  • Participate in research and development initiatives and disseminate findings through publications and presentations
