About this role
Element has an upcoming opportunity for an Analytical Chemist (Environmental Testing) to join our growing team. This role prepares and analyzes environmental and drinking water samples using standard analytical techniques according to approved scientific and EPA methodologies. Compliance with quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures is essential, involving physical work with solvents, glassware, and equipment.
Daily tasks include preparation of samples using standard techniques and performing chemical analysis. Prioritize work assignments to ensure extraction and analysis hold times are met, analyzing drinking water and complex environmental extracts for compounds like pesticides, PCBs, SVOCs, SOCs, and VOCs by GC, GC-ECD, and GC-MS. Review raw data for accuracy, interferences, proper integration, chromatograms, and mass spectra in complicated matrices.
Prepare and analyze duplicates and dilutions as needed, recording and reporting data or unusual occurrences to the supervisor. Perform routine instrument maintenance and repair, maintaining competency in complex instrumentation software with training provided. Keep personal training documentation current and complete assigned QC samples like MDL, LOD/LOQ, and PT on time.
