About this role
Form Energy is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist to join the Reliability Analytics team. The role focuses on building, adapting, and maintaining internal characterization services while delivering deep technical guidance. You will directly influence how material chemical properties affect battery performance and lifetime.
Day-to-day work centers on assessing and refining analytical methods for elemental and structural composition of components. You will specify automated analysis equipment and collaborate with the Software Engineering team to streamline data automation and deliver high-integrity results.
The position sits within a rapidly scaling organization producing iron-air batteries under contract with major utilities. The Reliability Analytics team operates in a high-throughput lab environment that supports data-driven decisions across materials development and manufacturing.

Requirements
- 3+ years of deep hands-on expertise in wet chemistry (e.g. ICP, titration) and thermal/spectroscopic analysis (e.g. FTIR / Raman, TGA, DSC) applied to material characterization.
- Proven experience managing a lab environment, overseeing sample queues, and leading technicians in a high-throughput support function.
- B.S. or M.S. or PhD in Chemistry or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Develop and document analytical methods to quantify chemical and structural characteristics of Form Energy’s component materials.
- Act as subject matter expert for a broad range of analytical tools and ASTM/ISO methods.
- Champion operational excellence, ensuring high sample throughput and quality to enable data-based decisions.
- Maintain robust communication with stakeholders, negotiating analysis requests to align with team capabilities.
- Leverage cloud-based sample management and custom software tools to track sample lifecycles and automate data pipelines.
- Expand lab capabilities by specifying, procuring, commissioning, and maintaining new analytical instruments.
