About this role
Trelleborg’s Engineered Coated Fabrics operation is a world leader in engineered polymer solutions for almost every industry globally. The Product Development Chemist/Engineer develops new polymer-based products for aerospace, transportation, defense and industrial markets. Products are based on novel combinations of polymers and textiles using coating and calendaring processes.
The role requires interaction with customers and sales to align on product requirements. Work with manufacturing develops scalable processes for production. External partners are engaged to identify new material technologies and create novel innovations.
Work occurs onsite at the Rutherfordton, NC facility in both laboratory and manufacturing settings. The environment includes exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations with potentially loud noise levels.
Occasional travel within the U.S. is required, with potential international travel as necessary. The position offers a rewarding career with greater opportunity for impact through polymer engineering innovation.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or M.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or similar technical field
- 2-5 years of technical experience in industrial R&D
- Deep knowledge of polymer chemistry
- Ability to perform hands-on work with industrial machinery
- Curiosity and ability to rapidly learn new materials, processes and testing methods
- Creative and analytical technical problem solving
