About this role

As an intern in the Analytical Chemistry Lab, you perform routine sample measurements using techniques such as porosimetry (BET, mercury intrusion), elemental analysis, and titration methods. You ensure reliable data through instrument calibration and validation per recommended schedules. This role supports smooth lab operations in a carbon capture-focused environment.

Day-to-day tasks include troubleshooting and routine maintenance of analytical instruments, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and contributing to workflow improvements. You assist with installing new equipment and modifying existing instrumentation. Accurate documentation of SOPs, shutdown procedures, error logs, and lab activities is essential.

You contribute to laboratory policies, procedures, and EH&S responsibilities, including workplace risk assessments, safety documentation, audits, and training development. The international, interdisciplinary team values a structured, detail-oriented approach. A safety-first mindset ensures adherence to all HSE requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed Bachelor’s or Master’s in chemistry or related field; laboratory technician apprenticeship encouraged
  • Background or strong interest in materials science or carbon capture a plus
  • Familiar with some analytical techniques and motivated to develop practical laboratory skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented with structured, reliable, proactive, hands-on mindset
  • Safety-first mindset with adherence to all HSE requirements
  • Fluent in English and comfortable in international, interdisciplinary environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine sample measurements using porosimetry (BET, mercury intrusion), elemental analysis, and titration methods
  • Calibrate analytical equipment and perform instrument validations per recommended schedules
  • Support troubleshooting activities and carry out routine maintenance of analytical instruments
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace and contribute to workflow improvements
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation including SOPs, shutdown procedures, and error logs
  • Assist with installation of new equipment and modification of existing lab instrumentation
  • Contribute to creating and updating laboratory policies and procedures
  • Support EH&S by conducting risk assessments, updating safety documentation, audits, and safety training
