About this role

Vertex is seeking a highly motivated analytical chemist to provide commercial product analytical support. This contractor role involves working directly with contract manufacturing organizations and a diverse group of scientists at Vertex.

Daily tasks include supporting commercial manufacturing of drug products through method transfers, authoring and reviewing documentation, and collecting, interpreting, and trending commercial data. You will troubleshoot analytical methods and ensure compendial compliance.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and CMOs to execute method transfers for small molecule drug products. The environment is fast-paced, requiring adaptability and strong technical writing skills.

This contract position offers the opportunity to contribute to late-phase and commercial projects at a leading pharmaceutical company. You will gain exposure to a wide range of analytical techniques and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Experience with chromatography methods such as HPLC, GC, and other common analytical techniques used in pharmaceutical analysis
  • Experience with compendial methods for analysis (e.g. KF, elemental impurity testing, and identification by spectroscopy)
  • Proficient with JMP
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills including Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new projects rapidly and flexibility to accommodate changes in responsibilities or project priorities
  • Strong understanding of development, implementation, and troubleshooting of analytical methods in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Typically requires Master's or Bachelor's and 2+ years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform method transfers for small molecule drug products to various CMOs or between internal groups
  • Author and review documentation including methods, transfer protocols and reports, lab notebooks, and technical reports
  • Collect, interpret, review, trend, and generate reports for commercial data supporting late-phase and commercial projects
  • Troubleshoot analytical methods encountered in commercial manufacturing of drug products
  • Support new and existing commercial products through analytical method implementation and validation
