About this role

Carry out QC lab analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, final products, and project samples so results are accurately determined in a timely manner. Communicate findings properly to customers per established Quality Systems based on ISO 9000, FSSC 22000/ISO 22002, and cGXP. This supports manufacturing operations and ensures customers receive the correct product, quality, and information.

Perform analyses using wet chemistry techniques, Near-infrared Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography, Ion Chromatography, and Karl Fischer titration. Handle rail car, tank wagon, flake, new tank, and line sample workflows. Conduct daily calibrations of lab equipment and maintain records to Quality Standards.

Work in the Chicago Oleo Plant on rotating shifts including days, afternoons, nights, and some weekends in a 24/7 facility. Maintain a clean 5S lab environment and perform off-shift responsibilities. Safely handle hazardous chemicals and ensure proper disposal while following cGMP policies.

Test wastewater and communicate results timely to internal and external customers. Flag quality issues as they arise and keep retain rooms organized with current supply inventory. Duties support ongoing quality regime and may be updated periodically.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field of study
  • Apply good safety practice, good laboratory practice – cGMP, ISO 9001, and FSSC 22000/ISO 22002
  • Aptitude in instrumental analysis and wet chemistry techniques such as GC, automated titrations, physical property testing, color measurement, and spectroscopic techniques
  • Ability to teach techniques, demonstrate good lab practice, perform basic troubleshooting, and maintain records including lab books
  • Good sense of smell required for organoleptic testing
  • Computer skills including databases, spreadsheets, word processing software, LIMS, and computer-controlled instruments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills, decision-making, and record keeping skills
