Pratt & Whitney, a leader in aircraft engines for over 100 years, seeks a Process Chemistry Specialist for the Material Control Laboratory (MCL) team. This onsite role supports production for major rotating hardware through chemistry-related testing.
The Process Chemistry Specialist - MCL performs process solution and raw material testing procedures while maintaining required schedules in a manufacturing production environment. Responsibilities include quality documentation of materials and processes, plus interpretation of specifications, procedures, and laboratory manuals to assess testing requirements and conformance.
Interact regularly with Production Operations and Engineering to address process solution issues and collaborate on root cause and corrective actions for manufacturing-related problems. Utilize CORE tools and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide clear, concise, and accurate lab reports while maintaining records according to procedure and monitoring testing frequency.
Investigate parts and process-related problems, own and maintain chemistry lab standard work documentation. Availability for occasional off-shift and weekend coverage supports business needs. Join to push boundaries of known science and shape the future of aerospace and defense.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field and minimum 5 years experience in an aerospace, chemicals, materials, manufacturing operations, quality or related environment OR Master's Degree and minimum 3 years’ experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Working knowledge of AS9100
- Knowledge and understanding of root cause investigations, corrective actions and problem solving
- Prior hands-on experience in chemical process solutions and mechanical testing techniques
- Experience with PWA specifications and evaluations to MCL Manual Sections
- Demonstrated proficiency in chemical processing and lab testing equipment
Responsibilities
- Gather samples and perform wet chemistry testing including titrations, pH reading, and stock loss testing
- Prepare samples and perform raw material testing utilizing established test methods and techniques
- Interact regularly with Production Operations and Engineering to address Process Solution issues and collaborate on root cause and corrective action for manufacturing-related issues
- Contribute by utilizing the CORE tools and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide clear, concise, and accurate lab reports; maintain records according to procedure and monitor testing frequency of all shop processes
- Investigate various parts and process related problems and own and maintain chemistry lab standard work documentation
- Provide availability for occasional off-shift and weekend coverage based on business needs
