Celanese Engineered Materials operates the Washington Works site in Parkersburg, WV, one of its largest manufacturing locations producing polymers distributed globally. This Analytical Chemist, Quality position supports analytical testing methods and equipment while developing strategies to improve analytical capabilities.

The role requires a solid understanding of general, analytical, organic, and polymer chemistry. Hands-on experience with thermal or rheology analysis, spectroscopy, microscopy, chromatography, or wet chemistry is essential, along with safe handling of common lab chemicals and basic instrument maintenance.

Work takes place in a team environment focused on solving complex projects with business impact. Strong respect for lab safety and wet chemical handling enables safe performance of non-routine testing, while technical writing skills deliver high-quality reports with timely data analysis.

The position interfaces with R&D, Commercial, and Quality teams to respond to inquiries, develop innovations, and coordinate methods. Mentoring lab resources and monitoring equipment performance help drive improvements in safety, efficiency, and technology.

Requirements

  • B.S. in chemistry or related discipline
  • Two or more years of experience in chemical, polymers, or energy related fields preferred
  • Hands-on capability and interpretation skills in thermal, rheology, spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy, or wet chemistry
  • High comfort level with analytical instrumentation including maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs
  • Effective communication and technical writing skills with proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong understanding and commitment to safe lab practices and chemical handling
  • Ability to organize detailed documentation and achieve timely, accurate results
  • Knowledge of Sample Manager and SAP desirable

  • Provide mentoring and influential leadership of lab resources
  • Respond to customer inquiries and quality notifications with Commercial and Quality teams
  • Interface with R&D and Commercial resources to develop innovations and coordinate analytical methods
