About this role
LGC Standards, a division of the UK’s designated National Measurement Institute, seeks a QC Chemist I to prepare analytical samples and generate accurate laboratory data for manufactured reference materials. This role supports quality assurance and research tools used in over 170 countries worldwide.
Daily tasks include preparing aqueous, organic, and metallo-organic stock samples, operating assigned analytical instrumentation such as ICP, GC, and LC systems, and performing routine maintenance. The chemist follows approved procedures and safety requirements, ensuring consistency and accuracy of results.
Work is performed in an analytical laboratory environment where the chemist routinely handles concentrated acids, organic solvents, and controlled chemical materials. Results are reviewed by independent laboratory staff prior to release, emphasizing a collaborative quality control culture.
The chemist communicates effectively with the QC Supervisor, QA personnel, and Production staff to escalate deviations and maintain clear documentation. This role offers the chance to contribute to high-standard reference materials production within a global scientific organization.
Requirements
- Ability to prepare analytical samples including aqueous, organic, and metallo-organic matrices.
- Proficiency in operating analytical instrumentation (ICP, GC, LC) and performing routine maintenance.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures and safety requirements for handling concentrated acids, organic solvents, and controlled materials.
- Attention to detail for accurate data recording and review.
- Capability to identify and communicate deviations or issues to senior staff.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with hazardous waste handling requirements.
- Effective written and verbal communication for documentation and collaboration.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks on schedule to meet production timelines.
Responsibilities
- Prepare aqueous, organic, and metallo-organic stock and custom samples in accordance with approved Quality System Procedures.
- Perform assigned laboratory tasks accurately and on schedule to support production and validation timelines.
- Operate assigned analytical instrumentation such as ICP, GC, and LC systems under established procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting, escalating complex issues to senior staff or supervision.
- Follow standard operating procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements at all times.
- Communicate routine laboratory activities, deviations, or issues to QC Supervisor, QA personnel, and Production staff.
- Accurately review and record analytical data using approved data systems and tools.
- Support laboratory key performance indicators through timely and accurate execution of assigned work.
