About this role
The Analytical Chemist II provides laboratory support for consumer beauty products, specializing in triple-quadrupole Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS QQQ). This role involves performing sample preparations, extractions, and other analytical techniques following routine methods.
Day-to-day work includes instrument analysis using LC-MS QQQ, HPLC, and GC-FID, as well as utilization of biological kits, mag-bead technology, and chemiluminescence. The analyst prepares samples from human source material such as hair and skin, creates standards and quality control samples via serial dilutions, and documents experiments in an electronic lab notebook.
This position is client-facing and performed in a client laboratory, requiring strong customer service skills and adherence to company and client quality, safety, and environmental policies. The analyst complies with SOPs, maintains logbooks, and follows the company Quality Manual and Safety/Chemical Hygiene Plan.
The role offers training and support on additional analytical methods and instruments, including GC, HP-LC, NMR, and biological kit assays. This is an opportunity to deepen expertise in a specialized, hands-on laboratory environment within the consumer products sector.
Requirements
- Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (or related instrumentation) experience
- Precision laboratory skills including micro-pipetting, balance use, and creation of serial dilutions
- Strong attention to detail and ability to learn quickly
- Good customer service skills, as the job is client-facing and performed in a client laboratory
- Proficiency in basic programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with keeping a laboratory notebook and performing basic analytical data analysis
- Written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in a group setting, with colleagues and clients
- Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize workload to meet or exceed deadlines
Responsibilities
- Perform instrument analysis to measure analytes from a variety of sample types, utilizing LC-MS QQQ, HPLC, and GC-FID
- Utilize biological kits, mag-bead technology, chemiluminescence, fluorescence, and absorbance readers
- Perform serial dilutions to create standards and quality control samples following a written method
- Prepare samples for analysis, including extractions from human source material such as hair and skin, via a written protocol
- Run validated methods and maintain instrumentation
- Quantitate and interpret chromatographic data
- Prepare samples for NMR analysis per written protocol
- Document experiments and generate data reports via ELN (electronic lab notebook)
