Roche

Penzberg, DE · Full-time · €55,000 – €65,000

About this role

Roche is seeking a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Chemistry Technologies department in Penzberg, Germany. This role focuses on developing novel reagents and workflows for next-generation sequencing, leveraging modern synthetic and analytical methods to design tailor-made molecules for diagnostic questions and beyond.

In this position, you will design and synthesize complex oligonucleotide-conjugates using contemporary bioconjugation techniques and small molecular entities by chemical synthesis. You will establish DNA templated proximity reactions for initial testing of new reagent classes and collaborate proactively with project partners from biology, analytics, and sequencing test development teams.

Our culture is defined by trust, transparency, and a strong collaborative spirit. We are driven by passion for science and commitment to continuous learning to stay at the forefront of research, working as a cross-functional team where every voice matters.

This position is part of the Roche Diagnostics Postdoc Program, offering the opportunity to present scientific progress through internal meetings and scientific conferences. The role is limited to 2 years, starting September 2026, and provides a platform to innovate healthcare through cutting-edge chemical research.

Requirements

  • PhD in the field of (bio)organic chemistry, chemical biology or life science
  • Profound knowledge in the synthesis of oligonucleotide-conjugates, preferably in context of biomolecules (proteins, peptides, nucleic acids)
  • Well experienced in organic synthesis
  • Hands-on experience in the field of DNA-templated reactions, proximity reactions and nucleic acid detection
  • At least one first author paper published or accepted in a high impact journal
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with sensitivity to intercultural and interdisciplinary matters
  • Excellent English skills required; German is not mandatory
