About this role

The University of Florida's Department of Chemistry seeks a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Associate to join Dr. Daniel Seidel's research group. This position focuses on developing new catalytic reactions and methods for modern synthetic organic chemistry.

Day-to-day work includes planning and carrying out multistep syntheses, developing and optimizing catalytic reactions, and conducting mechanistic studies. The researcher will also routinely set up and handle highly air- and moisture-sensitive reactions while characterizing intermediates with spectroscopic and analytical techniques.

The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team under Dr. Seidel's supervision. They are expected to maintain detailed records, disseminate results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers.

This postdoctoral position is initially awarded for one year, with possible renewal for up to three years based on strong performance and funding availability. The appointment offers a competitive salary and a full benefits package through the University of Florida.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related discipline completed by the appointment start date.
  • Strong research background in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Strong foundation in modern synthetic organic chemistry, including multistep synthesis, late-stage functionalization, and scale-up of synthetic routes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in reaction optimization, mechanistic analysis, and characterization of reaction intermediates using spectroscopic and analytical methods.
  • Hands-on experience in the setup and handling of highly air- and moisture-sensitive organic reactions.
  • Experience in the development of catalytic and/or asymmetric transformations.
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications and excellent written and oral communication skills.
