Join our growing Oligonucleotide Chemistry team within Nucleic Acid Therapeutics in Discovery Sciences, Gothenburg, Sweden. Apply your knowledge to expand oligonucleotides and molecular conjugates for Hit Finding and optimisation across therapy areas.

This lab-based oligo synthesis role develops optimised oligonucleotides and conjugates to support the AstraZeneca pipeline. Work alongside experienced chemists to meet project priorities. Propose strategies, solve synthetic challenges, and optimize methods on oligo synthesizers.

Collaborate closely with Scientists in Discovery Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, DMPK, Safety, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Focus on designing oligonucleotide therapeutics of the future. Enjoy a highly rewarding scientific environment.

Plan, prioritize, and perform independent work while driving problem solving with literature and expertise. Ensure high scientific standards and quality compounds. Build strong relationships in multi-disciplinary teams to advance drug discovery projects.

Requirements

  • MSc in Organic Chemistry and hands-on experience of oligo synthesis
  • Ability to design and execute oligo synthesis experiments independently
  • Detailed knowledge of synthetic chemistry relating to oligonucleotides including method optimization on oligo synthesizers and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of conjugating targeting moieties to different oligo-types
  • Design and synthesis knowledge within the oligonucleotide chemistry field, especially oligo synthesis, purification and analysis
  • Excellent English, both spoken and written
  • Recognized organic synthesis expertise and ability to troubleshoot challenges

Responsibilities

  • Apply oligonucleotide synthetic chemistry knowledge to expand use of oligonucleotides and molecular conjugates for Hit Finding and optimisation
  • Develop optimised oligonucleotides and oligo conjugates to support the AstraZeneca pipeline
  • Propose experimental strategies and solve oligonucleotide synthetic challenges including method optimization on oligo synthesizers
  • Plan, prioritize and perform own work independently
  • Actively collaborate with project teams by driving problem solving using literature and own knowledge
  • Ensure high scientific standards and quality of compounds to meet project objectives
  • Build strong collaborative relationships within the team and projects
