Hexion is expanding its research and development headquarters in Dublin, Ohio, creating high-impact roles in sustainable materials, advanced chemistry, and AI-driven manufacturing. We seek a highly motivated Research Chemist with a Ph.D. to recommend and lead research programs on new molecules, formulations, novel polymers, and advanced materials. This role contributes directly to strategic innovation initiatives and the product development pipeline.

Design and execute experiments to develop and characterize new molecules, polymers, formulations, or chemical processes. Conduct fundamental and applied research in polymerization methods, structure-property relationships, and materials performance. Analyze data using advanced techniques like NMR, FTIR, GPC, DSC, TGA, and rheology to guide research direction.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product development, engineering, and manufacturing to translate lab-scale research into commercial applications. Work in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment based in our Dublin, OH R&D Laboratory. Stay current with advancements through patent searching, literature review, conferences, and academic collaboration.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field
2+ years of experience working in a laboratory environment
Background in small molecule or polymer synthesis, formulation of adhesives, additives or formulations targeted at oil and gas, mining, or agricultural applications
Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and techniques relevant to polymer/material characterization
Demonstrated ability to identify, design and lead independent research projects
Excellent problem-solving skills with a creative and inquisitive mind

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental guidelines
Stay current with advancements in polymer science through patent searching, literature review, conferences, and academic collaboration
Utilize open innovation to identify new research programs and accelerate existing ones

Conduct fundamental and applied research in polymerization methods, structure-property relationships, and materials performance

Maintain comprehensive documentation of research activities, including lab notebooks, technical reports, and scientific publications
