About this role

HRL Laboratories pioneers the next frontiers of physical and information science. Delivering transformative technologies in automotive, aerospace and defense, HRL advances critical missions. The company seeks a motivated scientist to drive chemical synthesis and material development from benchtop experimentation through pilot-scale production.

This role blends hands-on organic and polymer synthesis, inorganic and sol-gel chemistry, advanced material characterization, and process optimization. Develop next-generation materials for automotive, aerospace, and defense applications within a collaborative team environment. Work involves interacting with other scientists and presenting results to team members and customers.

Execute complex chemical reactions including organic, polymer, sol-gel, and organometallic synthesis. Operate analytical tools like DSC, TGA, FTIR, UV-Vis, rheometer, and SEM to interpret data. Document procedures, analyze results, and manage laboratory operations for rigorous standards.

HRL leverages digital manufacturing and scalable microfabrication to meet challenges in precision navigation, quantum technologies, and extreme-environment performance. Transition innovations back to customers ready for real-world application. Advance the state of the art as a private company owned by Boeing and GM.
