Osmo

Elizabeth, US · Full-time · $150,000 – $180,000

About this role

Osmo is a digital olfaction company on a mission to give computers a sense of smell. The Senior Scientist drives strategy and execution of GC/MS-based characterization programs. This high-autonomy role powers the fragrance discovery engine and machine learning infrastructure.

Own end-to-end analytical strategy including method design, validation frameworks, and data quality standards. Define sample preparation methodologies for headspace, liquid-phase, and solid-phase extraction. Maintain the high-throughput analytical pipeline for data integrity and reproducibility.

Partner with Platform and ML teams to structure analytical data for computational use. Determine methods for new assignments independently while coordinating execution. Enforce high standards of scientific rigor and data quality across programs.

Mentor junior and mid-level scientists while establishing best practices. Serve as internal expert resource for analytical chemistry questions. Write, edit, and audit experimental protocols supporting Osmo's scientific programs.

Requirements

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Flavor/Fragrance Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, Cosmetic Chemistry, or related field with 5+ years of post-degree experience
  • Deep hands-on expertise in GC-MS method development and validation for targeted quantitation and untargeted profiling
  • Familiarity with MassHunter Qual/Quant or comparable analysis platforms
  • Advanced proficiency in sample preparation techniques including LLE, SPE, headspace, and SPME
  • Demonstrated experience operating with high autonomy in defining analytical scope and coordinating execution
  • Proven ability to set technical direction including authoring SOPs and establishing QC frameworks
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills with non-chemistry stakeholders such as ML engineers
