About this role

At Alcon, the Senior Associate II, Analytical Chemistry performs complex qualitative and quantitative analyses to confirm identity, purity, and homogeneity of compounds and products. The role supports global eye health by delivering accurate data on organic, inorganic, and finished materials.

Day-to-day work includes investigating physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of packaging and formulation dosage forms. Associates organize and interpret data from multiple instrumental technologies while designing studies of higher complexity.

The position collaborates with Analytical, Formulation, Process, Packaging, and Device teams within Ocular Health. All work follows GLP requirements, with experiments documented in laboratory notebooks or batch records without Quality deviation.

Associates manage laboratory equipment and supplies, act as subject matter experts on high-impact projects, and provide technical advice to junior colleagues. The role offers opportunities to lead initiatives and mentor mid-level professionals.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of total experience with Analytical Chemistry, material science & Engineering, Bio-Technology, technical writing, report writing, research
  • Synthesize/Analyze data from external and internal lab testing sources into an Electronic Lab Notebook in addition to accurate, concise technical reports
  • Understand relevant ISO standards to medical device testing including but not limited to extractables and leachables, biocompatibility, and toxicology testing
  • Understand applicable USP, EP, JP, and internal NOC test methods for raw materials used in pharmaceutical and medical device products

Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of organic and inorganic compounds and finished products
  • Investigate physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of materials, including packaging and formulation dosage forms
  • Conduct research to develop or improve analytical techniques and methodologies
  • Organize and interpret data using a variety of instrumental technologies
  • Design studies or develop non-standard procedures of higher complexity
  • Troubleshoot moderate complexity problems and develop practical solutions
  • Document experiments in laboratory notebooks or batch records in a GLP-compliant manner
  • Analyze polymers and contact lenses using mechanical, thermal, rheological, surface, and permeability techniques
