About this role
This hybrid position requires onsite presence a minimum of 4 days per week and is a one-year contract role with the possibility of extension. The Applied Research & Clinical team develops innovative products that improve patient lives through transformative technologies adjacent to West’s core offerings.
The role focuses on big “R” research using chromatographic analytical technologies such as HPLC, GC, and LC/MS to characterize small to large molecules. Daily work includes designing and executing experimental studies that guide research and investment decisions on disruptive future technologies.
Candidates interface internally with scientists and engineers on drug-delivery and advanced-materials programs while building external relationships with researchers and biotech companies. Insights from these collaborations inform West’s development priorities over the next 5–15 years.

Requirements
- Knowledgeable about analytical development and characterization of small to large molecules using HPLC, GC, and LC/MS.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute experimental studies on materials including polymers, lipids, mRNA, and siRNA.
- Experience building relationships across internal teams and with external researchers or biotech companies.
- Understanding of current developments in research and industry relevant to drug-delivery and advanced materials.
- Strong collaboration skills for working across a wide array of stakeholders in R&D programs.
Responsibilities
- Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize HPLC and LC/MS methods for characterization of small molecules, polymers, lipids, mRNA, siRNA, and related impurities.
- Design and execute experimental studies that inform research and investment decisions on highly disruptive future technologies.
- Interface internally with scientists and engineers working on drug-delivery and advanced-materials programs.
- Build external relationships with researchers and biotech companies to surface new technologies for West R&D leadership.
- Apply deep expertise in analytical development and current industry developments to contribute to the broader R&D organization.
