About this role

AbbVie seeks a Senior Scientist I, Peptide Analytical Chemist to conceive, implement and execute novel scientific research supporting early phase development of New Chemical Entities, particularly synthetic peptides, in preclinical and clinical stages.

The role requires independently developing and optimizing analytical methods and techniques that generate reliable, reproducible data while applying chromatographic analysis such as HPLC or GC and Mass Spectrometry to advance projects.

You will collaborate within the global Analytical R&D organization and with cross-functional partners including Pre-Clinical Safety, Process Chemistry, Process Engineering, Drug Product Development, Quality Assurance, and CMC-Regulatory Affairs.

Highly autonomous work involves initiating new areas of investigation, formulating conclusions from multidisciplinary data, and maintaining high productivity through scientific initiative and creativity in the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Chemistry (Analytical/Organic/Medicinal) or Pharmaceutical Sciences with minimum 10 (BS), 8 (MS), or 0-2 (Ph.D.) years related industry experience.
  • Strong technical background in peptide development with excellent analytical problem-solving skills and capability to independently develop and troubleshoot analytical methods.
  • Demonstrated experience with HPLC analysis and method development preferred along with expertise in Mass Spectrometry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support new peptide product development from an analytical perspective while working with cross-functional areas to advance projects through the development pipeline.
  • Support new peptide product development with advanced analytics to drive the pipeline and impactful research initiatives.
  • Utilize understanding of a range of analytical techniques to conduct research and development studies related to synthetic-molecule drug substances, impurities, and impurity profiling.
  • Perform laboratory research and method development in a highly autonomous manner requiring only minimal direction from supervisor.
  • Initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.
  • Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data while processing, interpreting, and visualizing data to facilitate project team decisions.
  • Lead method development, testing procedures, and implementation of analytical control strategies to help the advancement of drug discovery candidates.
