SA · Full-time · SAR 240,000 – SAR 360,000

About this role

Are you passionate about developing advanced polymeric materials for electrochemical energy storage and conversion, including batteries, fuel cells, and electrolyzers, to contribute to net-zero carbon emissions? The group of Prof. Anqi Wang at KAUST is recruiting several postdocs to join our dynamic team. Research is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary.

Encompassing organic and polymer chemistry, membrane science and engineering, and electrochemistry, the focus is on function-led design and synthesis of microporous polymers for energy applications. You will independently lead a research direction within the group while working closely with team members and collaborators. Starting with defined projects, explore your own scientific pursuits.

Conduct experiments, process data, prepare reports, and produce publications and patents. Co-supervise master and Ph.D. students and support the PI with grant proposals. Coordinate collaborations with flexibility to adjust to changing schedules and tasks.

Enthusiastic candidates with skills in controlled polymerization, microporous materials, or electrochemical technologies are sought. KAUST offers competitive salary, free housing, and subsidized medical insurance. Visit https://www.kaust.edu.sa/en/live for more on living and working there.

  • Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field
  • General knowledge of polymers and specific skills in controlled, living polymerization for complex architectures and microphase separation
  • Rational design and synthesis of microporous organic materials
  • Supramolecular chemistry and non-covalent interactions
  • Ion-exchange membranes: synthesis, manufacturing, and applications
  • Redox flow batteries: aqueous organic and emerging systems
  • Membrane-electrode assemblies for fuel cells and electrolyzers
  • Strong academic track record, scientific writing skills, and record of publications in peer-reviewed journals

Responsibilities

  • Lead one of the research directions and contribute to the design and conceptual development of projects
  • Conduct experiments, process data in a timely manner, prepare progress reports, and produce publications, patents, and other research outputs
  • Co-supervise master and Ph.D. students
  • Support the PI with grant proposals and coordinate collaborations
  • Adjust flexibly to changing schedules and tasks as needed
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the PI

Benefits

  • Highly competitive salary
  • Free housing
  • Subsidized medical insurance
