About this role

We are seeking a Process or Chemical Engineer to support qualification and operational readiness efforts for a small molecule GMP facility. This hands-on, execution role focuses on assessing equipment setup, supporting start-up and qualification activities, and developing practical operating procedures for safe kilo- to pilot-scale synthetic operations. The position runs from July 13th to December 11th, 2026.

This individual will work closely with senior personnel in Process Chemistry Development, Engineering, QA, and EHS to bring equipment into reliable and compliant operation. The role involves hands-on use of reactors, filters, distillation equipment, and drying equipment to support synthetic chemical operations. Practical recommendations ensure safe and compliant execution.

Day-to-day tasks include evaluating inherited pilot-scale and kilo-lab equipment, identifying capability gaps, risks, and remediation actions. Operate jacketed and glass-lined reactors, filtration and drying systems, TFF systems, and chromatography systems. Troubleshoot mechanical and process performance issues while establishing safe operating envelopes.

Partner with Process Chemistry, Moderna leadership, and EHS for risk assessment and safety in scale-up activities. Contribute technical content to SOPs, equipment operating procedures, batch records, and cleaning strategies. Enable small molecule GMP and non-GMP production readiness through qualification and commissioning support.
