About this role
IFF is looking for a Polymer Scientist to join our Research & Development team. IFF’s Health & Biosciences division is a global leader in biotechnology with laboratories that pioneered modern biotechnology. The team is developing novel polysaccharides for industrial applications including home and personal care.
You will join the Research Platform designing enzyme-based polysaccharide biomaterials. Engage in direct customer interactions, problem solving, and applications development with these materials. Master hands-on lab work alongside business topics like market analysis, cost evaluations, and competitive assessments.
The R&D team houses 32 creative, multi-disciplinary scientists from 13 nationalities in a dynamic environment. Work closely with global process and product development teams plus operations. Thrive in an inclusive, multicultural setting focused on sustainable bio-solutions.
This role offers professional growth and career development in biotechnology. Represent IFF on EU new material development programs. Build laboratory capabilities while leading customer programs in a changing business landscape.
Requirements
- PhD in a scientific or engineering field or Master’s degree plus equivalent experience
- Relevant experience in polymer science, water soluble polymers formulation, characterization, design and synthesis
- Knowledge of polysaccharide material processing
- Experience interfacing effectively with customers in one-on-one and group settings
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment
Responsibilities
- Focus on understanding fundamental material science properties of polysaccharides and their chemical derivatives for customer applications
- Identify new opportunities for polysaccharides in home and personal care applications
- Lead customer development programs
- Build understanding of polysaccharides in downstream applications
- Develop and build laboratory capabilities
- Conduct laboratory and customer pilot trials
- Represent IFF on various EU new material development programs
