Small business with a 40-year history as a first-class materials science and applied research and development firm seeks a polymer scientist. The role focuses on hands-on laboratory formulation and optimization of new, patentable, high performance polymer materials such as coatings, molding compounds, adhesives, resins, sealants, and foams. Candidate should have a proven track record of polymer formulation and development of new materials.
Develop new and next generation polymers in a research and development environment. Manage product and process development initiatives requiring advanced concepts in chemistry and polymer science. Experience in polymer production methods and scaling is key.

Requirements
- B.S. Degree with minimum 5+ years experience, M.S. with 3+ years, or entry level PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines
- Proven track record of polymer formulation and development of new materials
- Knowledge of industry practices and standards in chemical formulation, fabrication, and testing of materials
- Experience in polymer production methods and scaling of polymer production
- Understanding of thermomechanical testing of polymers and composite materials
- Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Industrial Security clearance
- Effective technical communication, presentation, and technical writing skills
- Ability to manage and execute multiple projects with competing deadlines
Responsibilities
- Develop new and next generation polymers
- Perform hands-on laboratory formulation and optimization of high performance polymer materials
- Manage product and process development initiatives with advanced concepts in chemistry and polymer science
- Scale polymer production methods
- Conduct thermomechanical testing of polymers and composite materials including rheology, tribology, fracture, and impact
- Solve technical problems by combining scientific knowledge and hands-on experiments
- Lead project scoping, costing, scheduling, and execution
- Take innovative technologies from applied research to product development and commercial market
