Manage and complete testing projects for internal and external customers within agreed timelines. Perform routine analysis and characterization of samples using scientific principles. Provide support for production and customer issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

Build and manage relationships with stakeholders in Research and Development, Commercial, Marketing, and Supply Chain. Provide guidance and training on test methods and equipment control to customers and AkzoNobel team members. Serve as AkzoNobel representative with external trade groups to standardize test procedures.

Identify new process optimizations, technical solutions, and application opportunities, sharing recommendations across business units. Contribute to extending existing technology through equipment modification, design, calibration, maintenance, and procedures. Oversee preventative maintenance on all testing equipment to maximize efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Science or related field and 5 years' polymer, coatings, analytical sciences or related experience
  • Master of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Science or related field and 3 years' polymer, coatings, analytical sciences or related experience
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Science or related field and 1 year polymer, coatings, analytical sciences or related experience
  • Supervisory experience leading testing projects and programs
  • Extensive understanding and experience with analytical instrumentation; SEM/EDS, FT-IR, and DSC knowledge preferred
  • Effective organizational and project management skills to manage multiple projects and execute complex technical tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare customer reports and present to colleagues and customers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience using laboratory software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Apply scientific principles to perform routine analysis and characterization of powder coating samples
  • Provide guidance and training on test methods and equipment control to customers and AkzoNobel team members
  • Purchase required laboratory supplies, parts, equipment, and chemicals to keep the facility operational
  • Provide support for production and customer issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Identify new process optimizations, technical solutions, and application opportunities for designated areas, sharing with other business units
  • Contribute to extension of existing technology through modification, design, calibration, maintenance, and procedures of equipment
  • Oversee regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on all testing equipment
  • Build and manage relationships with functional stakeholders in Research and Development, Commercial, Marketing, and Supply Chain
