This 12-month internship offers a hands-on opportunity to perform analysis of flavour and fragrance raw materials passing through the Quality Control laboratory. The primary focus is quantifying Fragrance Allergens to ensure customers can use products within current regulations.

Day-to-day work involves using GCMS-FID to quantify allergens, performing boiling point analysis to maintain REACH compliance, and preparing standard materials for instrument calibration. The role also includes routine maintenance and troubleshooting of GCMS instrumentation.

Requirements

Interest in analytical chemistry, particularly chromatographic techniques (GCMS)
Ability to work methodically and accurately with attention to detail in a laboratory setting
Comfortable following standard operating procedures and maintaining documentation logs
Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and reporting hazards appropriately
Willingness to participate in sensory evaluation (odour and taste panels)
Strong organisational skills for managing multiple calibration and validation schedules

Responsibilities

Quantify Fragrance Allergens within products using GCMS-FID to enable customers to dose products in various fragrance applications
Perform boiling point analysis to ensure products are compliant with all REACH regulations
Perform and assess routine instrument validations to ensure systems are fit for use, including upkeep of validation logs
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of utilised GCMS instrumentation and maintain the instrument maintenance log
Prepare standard materials required for calibration of instruments and methods, and perform subsequent calibrations, including upkeep of calibration logs
Perform routine daily checks to ensure laboratory and instrumentation are in an appropriate state for work
Perform pipette calibrations and update the spreadsheet appropriately
Partake in sensory evaluation including odour and taste panels on a daily basis
