About this role

Living Proof is seeking an experienced and hands-on Analytical Chemist to join the R&D Research team. Responsibilities include analytical method development and validation, investigating complex analytical problems, supporting quality activities, and contributing to product claims substantiation. This full-time position is based in Boston, MA, and reports to the Director of Research.

Develop, validate, and implement robust analytical methods for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished hair care products. Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain analytical instrumentation including GC/MS, HPLC, GPC, FTIR, Raman, and UV-vis. Author analytical documentation such as test methods, validation protocols, SOPs, and technical summaries.

Collaborate cross-functionally with internal R&D and external partners to deliver high-quality analytical insights. Lead QA/QC activities for production batch release ensuring compliance with specifications. Coordinate method transfers to contract manufacturers and laboratories with troubleshooting support.

Interpret chromatographic, spectroscopic, and performance data to generate actionable technical reports. Provide analytical support for claims substantiation and experiments establishing POC and POP for new technologies. Contribute to innovation by exploring emerging analytical methodologies and presenting findings to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Significant hands-on experience with HPLC and GC/MS including method development, validation, quantitative analysis, and instrument maintenance
  • Proficiency in analyzing polymers, hair, and proteins by GPC, HPLC, and related techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of FTIR and Raman spectroscopy including data interpretation, processing and chemometric modeling
  • Experience working in a GMP/GLP/ISO9001 environment and knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines (FDA, ICH, ISO, REACH)
  • Practical experience analyzing and preparing complex sample matrices (e.g., emulsions, gels, waxes, and aerosols)
  • Self-starter with proven ability to lead technical aspects of projects, manage risk, execute within timelines and work independently
  • Proved track record of out-of-box thinking with regards to problem solving
  • Excellent organization, planning, multi-tasking, interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills

  • Lead QA/QC activities related to production batch release to ensure compliance with product specifications
  • Coordinate method transfers to external contract manufacturers and laboratories including preparation of protocols and troubleshooting
  • Provide analytical support for product claims substantiation and support POC and POP experiments for new technologies
