About this role
GE Vernova Advanced Research drives strategy and leads R&D to power the energy transition. Researchers collaborate across scientific disciplines with GE Vernova businesses, U.S. government, and over 420 entities on 150+ energy projects. These efforts solve technical challenges, advance products, and enable sustainable energy.
Conduct basic and applied research in small organic molecule, polymeric, polymer composite, porous organic polymers, or inorganic materials synthesis. Fabricate functional material systems through slurry and binder formulations on additively-manufactured components. Design and execute experiments while leading impactful tasks for GE Vernova businesses.
Join a multidisciplinary team developing functional materials for diverse applications. Collaborate with technologists, product managers, and external partners to meet product and process needs. Build relationships across GE Vernova Advanced Research and with academic, national lab, and industry experts.
Identify technical breakthroughs, pursue external opportunities, and write grant proposals. Support IP strategy with disclosures and patent applications. Deliver presentations, reports, and publications to leadership, businesses, agencies, and journals.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science or related discipline
- Proven record of innovation, including peer-reviewed publications, in areas related to the synthesis of organic and polymeric materials, inorganic and organometallic powders and suspensions, and/or additive material formulations and slurry development
- Practical knowledge of safety practices as it relates to experimental design and lab practices
- Demonstrated project execution experience, teamwork experience and ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team
- Demonstrated leadership experience
Responsibilities
- Conduct basic and applied research including small organic molecule, polymeric, polymer composite, porous organic polymers, or inorganic materials synthesis, component design, materials testing, process development and optimization, and performance evaluation
- Fabricate functional material systems through the development and coating/deposition of slurry and binder formulations on additively-manufactured components
- Design and execute experiments while independently leading tasks that result in impact for GE Vernova businesses and customers
- Identify key technical issues and produce cutting edge technical breakthroughs
- Determine system level performance requirements and develop fundamental system knowledge through experimentation and process optimization
- Collaborate with Technologists and Product Managers in GE Vernova businesses and external partners to understand needs and requirements
- Support IP strategy development, prior art analysis, write disclosures and patent applications, and collect rigorous experimental data
- Deliver effective presentations, reports, and publications to leadership, businesses, government agencies, professional societies, and peer-reviewed journals
