US · Full-time · $111,375 – $185,625

About this role

At GSK, we have bold ambitions for patients, aiming to positively impact the health of 2.5 billion people by the end of the decade. Our R&D focuses on discovering and delivering vaccines and medicines, uniting science, technology, and talent to get ahead of disease. We foster a culture ambitious for patients, accountable for impact, and committed to doing the right thing.

This collaborative analytical chemistry role allows meaningful contributions to GSK’s pre-clinical oligonucleotide pipeline. As Principal Scientist, you will develop and execute advanced analytical methods for diverse synthetic oligonucleotide modalities. These efforts help accelerate GSK’s pipeline and platform technology ambitions.

You will use advanced LC/MS-MS capabilities to characterize novel synthetic oligonucleotides in low- and high-throughput settings. Collaborate internally and externally, representing Oligonucleotide Discovery Analytical Chemistry on project teams. Support analytical investigations with root cause analysis alongside cross-functional teams.

Participate in hiring, mentoring, and training junior team members to ensure knowledge transfer and capability development. Help design and manage key data pipelines. Explore our approach to R&D for more details.

Requirements

  • A BS degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience or an MS degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience in analytical chemistry or a related discipline (or equivalent)
  • Two or more years of experience using high-resolution LC/MS(-MS) methodology in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or academic setting
  • At least one year of experience utilizing modern mass spectrometry data analysis techniques, particularly as applied to biopolymers such as oligonucleotides, proteins, and/or glycans
  • At least one year of experience in high-resolution LC/MS(-MS) method development and method troubleshooting
  • A PhD in analytical chemistry or a related discipline with three or more years of experience
  • Professional experience in the field of oligonucleotide therapeutics
  • Experience with high-throughput LC/MS(-MS) data acquisition and analysis

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy robust analytical methods to support in-house oligonucleotide synthesis, including novel chemistries and conjugates
  • Use advanced LC/MS-MS capabilities to fully characterize novel synthetic oligonucleotides and related species in low- and high-throughput settings
  • Help design and manage key data pipelines
  • Collaborate internally and externally, representing Oligonucleotide Discovery Analytical Chemistry on project teams
  • Support analytical investigations, including root cause analysis, in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Participate in hiring, mentoring and training of junior team members, ensuring knowledge transfer and capability development
