Are you a passionate Scientist with expertise in synthetic chemistry and great interest in the development of Oligonucleotide Therapeutics? Join a growing team at AstraZeneca Discovery Sciences in Gothenburg, Sweden, to exploit drug discovery platforms. This Senior Research Scientist role focuses on oligonucleotide chemistry within the Oligonucleotide Discovery Department.

As a synthesis specialist, develop oligonucleotide drugs and support the AstraZeneca pipeline by synthesizing and purifying high quality building blocks and compounds. Apply cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to progress projects from pre-TSID to CDID according to timelines. Troubleshoot challenges and contribute to practical delivery of project compounds.

Work alongside other chemists to support project priorities and supervise more junior colleagues. Collaborate closely with Scientists in Discovery Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, DMPK, Safety and Pharmaceutical sciences. Focus on designing and developing the oligonucleotide therapeutics of the future in a highly rewarding scientific environment.

Propose experimental strategies and creatively solve a wide range of synthetic challenges. Plan, prioritize and perform work while driving problem solving using literature and own knowledge. Build strong collaborative relationships to ensure high scientific standards and smooth project running.

Demonstrate passion for driving scientific questions and expand the use of oligonucleotides and molecular conjugates in treating diseases across therapy areas. Publish new findings and ensure quality compounds meet project objectives within multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry
  • Detailed knowledge of synthetic chemistry related to oligonucleotides, oligo building blocks and/or synthesis of advanced organic molecules
  • Ability to design and execute experiments autonomously
  • Evidence of experimental impact by peer-reviewed publications or external presentations
  • Passion for driving scientific questions with strong working ethics
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
  • Positive, result-oriented and problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent English, both spoken and written
