The Senior Materials/Polymer Scientist drives business growth through new product development, process development, and operation/customer support. This role enhances engineered mineral solutions for thermoplastics, thermosets, and rubber applications.

Day-to-day involves leading new product/process development, testing, and characterization techniques tailored to applications. Scale-up from laboratory to commercial scale occurs through plant trials, including at customer sites. The position manages projects of moderate size and scope while making substantial contributions to team goals.

In this team environment, promote and maintain a safe work environment for self and others. Communicate project results via technical and business-focused presentations internally and externally. Act as point-of-contact with IP and Legal team for patent applications.

Growth opportunities include innovating NPD programs in response to customer needs and market trends. Identify development projects to feed the NPD pipeline aligned with business strategies. Stay current with technical literature and IP to generate ideas for new products or applications.

Requirements

Expertise in materials science with focus on polymers and mineral fillers
Experience developing solutions for thermoplastics, thermosets, and rubber applications
Proficiency in product testing and characterization techniques for polymer applications
Knowledge of laboratory-to-commercial scale-up processes and plant trials
Ability to generate ideas from technical literature and intellectual property
Skills in translating scientific discoveries into patent applications
Familiarity with market trends in energy transition and sustainable construction

Responsibilities

Enhance division’s core competency of engineered mineral solutions for thermoplastics, thermosets, and rubber applications
Promote and maintain a safe work environment for self and others
Manage projects of moderate size and scope
Lead or assist in new product/process/method development, testing, characterization techniques, and scale-up to commercial scale through plant trials at customer sites
Write technical reports documenting scientific work, experimental results, and project achievements
Communicate project results via technical and business-focused presentations internally and at external conferences
Identify development projects to feed the NPD pipeline in alignment with market trends and business strategies
