We seek a highly motivated Research Chemist with in-depth knowledge of chemical composition, structure, properties, processes, and transformations. The role suits a driven professional understanding chemical applications, interactions, hazards, production techniques, and safe disposal methods. The successful candidate starts with hands-on technical execution in a fast-paced environment. Duties include preparing samples, analyzing with GC/MS or LC/MS, maintaining instruments, and documenting activities per QA plans and SOPs. Confer with scientists to interpret results and develop tests.

Grow quickly into leading projects, shaping technical direction, and supporting team development. Prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively while adhering to safety and health plans. Opportunities arise to assist in technical papers and improve analytical methods.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience operating gas chromatography (GC) instrumentation, preferably GC/MS for EPA methods
  • Proficiency with instrument plumbing, including gas and liquid lines
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory hygiene practices and protocols
  • Legible and accurate scientific writing
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical composition, structure, properties, processes, and transformations
  • Understanding of chemical applications, interactions, hazards, production techniques, and safe disposal methods
  • Ability to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional technical support within allocated task resources and contribute to scientific operations efficiency
  • Adhere to Quality Assurance Program Plans, Work Plans, SOPs, and Health & Safety Plans; document laboratory activities in notebooks
  • Maintain laboratory spaces per Safety, Health, and Environmental Management criteria; evaluate and recommend safety improvements
  • Perform preparation, extraction, and analysis of target compounds from environmental sample matrices using GC/MS, LC/MS
  • Prepare sampling media such as XAD, filters, canisters, thermal desorption tubes prior to field deployment
  • Conduct quality control tests, evaluate results against data quality goals, and perform corrective actions
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments; compile test information to diagnose malfunctions
  • Communicate processes, results, and challenges to supervisors; assist in writing technical papers or reports
