About this role

Wychem, an Ascensus Specialties Company, seeks a Process Chemist to join the operations team. Reporting directly to the Development Lead, you will drive new operations and evolve new and existing processes and products. This role demands a proactive approach to chemical development, bridging laboratory research to production scale with technical expertise and documentation.

You will undertake development projects aiding R&D in scaling research concepts to full production manufacturing. Perform distillations and small-scale fine chemical manufacture while supporting distillation room operations. Provide troubleshooting support to Operations, QC, and Research for efficiency.

Liaise closely with QC, Research, and Production departments in a small team environment. Build strong relationships with employees, auditors, and clients to meet timescales. Maintain self-motivation, strong work ethic, and interpersonal skills to drive the company forward.

Ensure compliance with QC systems, policies, SOPs, and WIs through rigorous documentation and ERP data entry. Uphold laboratory safety and handle hazardous chemicals responsibly. Gain exposure to fine chemical production evolution and technical challenges.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry (preferably Organic Chemistry) or equivalent industry experience
  • Hands-on experience with operation of distillation units and small-scale fine chemical manufacture
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Excellent working knowledge of Office 365, particularly Excel and Word
  • Thorough understanding of risks associated with handling and working around hazardous chemicals
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict, short deadlines while remaining flexible
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic and interpersonal skills for small team environment
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality regarding privileged information

Responsibilities

  • Undertake development projects to aid R&D in scale-up of research-scale concepts to full production-scale manufacturing
  • Perform distillations and small-scale manufacture of fine chemicals
  • Support the Development Lead in day-to-day operations of the distillation room
  • Provide critical support to Operations, QC, and Research in problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Ensure total compliance with company’s QC system, Policies, SOPs, and WIs
  • Review and check technical documentation and enter results accurately into the ERP system
  • Maintain the Process laboratory in a safe manner adhering to safety procedures
  • Liaise closely with QC, Research, and Production departments and build relationships with employees, auditors, and clients
