Faculty teach organic chemistry lectures and labs, plus other Physical Sciences department courses. They develop high impact teaching techniques and instruction plans for online and in-person modalities. Leadership includes coordinating adjunct faculty teams for lectures and labs as needed.

Team members collaborate within the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Physical Sciences Department. They advise students on STEM academic programs and careers, mentoring science majors through independent study, honors projects, or service-learning. Participation covers department meetings, committees, textbook selection, and assessment projects.

Engage in professional development to improve chemistry pedagogy continuously. Assist with course and curriculum development, evaluation, revision, and benchmarking for transferability. Maintain laboratory instrumentation and adhere to Faculty Contract standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in organic and/or biochemistry
  • Master’s Degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in Chemistry (credits should include organic chemistry graduate courses)
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Education preferred with organic or biochemistry concentration
  • Interest in serving and retaining students from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to closing equity gaps and innovative teaching strategies
  • Outstanding communication skills and effective collaboration
  • Personal initiative to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Teach organic chemistry lectures and labs
  • Teach other chemistry courses offered in the Physical Sciences department
  • Develop and implement teaching techniques that employ high impact practices
  • Develop plans of instruction for both online and in-person modalities
  • Provide leadership through the coordination of teams of adjunct faculty for both lecture and laboratory courses, as needed
  • Advise students on academic programs and careers related to the STEM fields and mentor science majors through independent study, honors projects and/or community service-learning projects
  • Engage in professional development and continuous improvement to pedagogy related to the field of chemistry
  • Assist in course and curriculum development, evaluation, and revision, including benchmarking efforts for course transferability
