About this role

As a bench-level Organic Chemist within our Commercial Process Development team, you'll lead the design and optimization of cutting-edge synthetic routes. These efforts accelerate pharmaceutical manufacturing at Sanofi. Your expertise ensures safe scale-up from laboratory to pilot plant.

You'll plan and conduct organic synthesis experiments with proficiency in analytical characterization techniques. Design DoE experiments and perform rapid reaction screening to optimize processes. Support technology transfer to manufacturing sites while troubleshooting issues.

Requirements

  • Expertise in organic synthesis and process chemistry for APIs
  • Proficiency in analytical characterization techniques
  • Experience conducting rapid reaction screening
  • Skilled in designing DoE experiments
  • Knowledge of scale-up from laboratory to pilot plant operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot at chemistry-manufacturing interfaces
  • Technical leadership including mentoring junior scientists

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize synthetic routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) using technology for smooth scale-up to pilot-scale operations
  • Plan and conduct organic synthesis experiments and chemical reactions in the laboratory
  • Support technology transfer to manufacturing sites and troubleshoot technical issues at the chemistry-manufacturing interface
  • Serve as the primary technical contact within the team, anticipating challenges and implementing proactive measures
  • Mentor junior scientists and offer technical leadership and guidance to the team
  • Document all experimental work in digital lab notebooks and compile findings into comprehensive technical reports
  • Oversee the proper maintenance and operational readiness of specific scientific equipment
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to multidisciplinary audiences and stakeholders
