About this role

Form Energy is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist to join the Reliability Analytics team. The role centers on building and maintaining internal characterization services that reveal how material chemistry affects battery performance and lifetime. You will refine methods for elemental and structural analysis while guiding colleagues on complex technical questions.

Day-to-day work includes assessing and improving analytical techniques for component materials. You will specify automated equipment, collaborate with Software Engineering on data pipelines, and ensure lab workflows deliver high-integrity results at scale. Cloud-based sample management tools help track lifecycles and automate calculations.

The position operates within a fast-growing manufacturing environment focused on iron-air battery production. You will champion operational excellence by managing sample queues, leading technicians, and negotiating priorities with internal stakeholders to match team capacity.

This is a pivotal time to join as the company scales its first high-volume facility and fulfills utility contracts across the United States. Your contributions will directly support the mission of delivering reliable, multi-day energy storage for the electric grid.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of deep hands-on expertise in wet chemistry (e.g. ICP, titration) and thermal/spectroscopic analysis (e.g. FTIR/Raman, TGA, DSC) applied to material characterization.
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing a lab environment, overseeing sample queues, and leading technicians in a high-throughput support function.
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM and ISO methods for chemical and structural analysis.
  • Experience specifying, procuring, and commissioning analytical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document analytical methods to quantify chemical and structural characteristics of component materials.
  • Act as subject matter expert for a broad range of analytical tools and ASTM/ISO methods.
  • Champion operational excellence to ensure high sample throughput and quality for data-based decisions.
  • Maintain robust communication with stakeholders while negotiating analysis requests and identifying optimization opportunities.
  • Leverage cloud-based sample management and custom software tools to track sample lifecycles and automate data pipelines.
  • Expand lab capabilities by specifying, procuring, commissioning, and maintaining new analytical instruments.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance is available.
