About this role

The University of Tennessee Southern invites applications for the full-time Assistant Professor in Chemistry position within the School of Math and Sciences. Principal responsibility is teaching the prescribed 12-hour course load. Additional duties include academic advising, research, mentorship, and service to the University.

Teach a variety of courses including Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Science, primarily in-person with occasional online delivery. Assist in developing new courses and revising existing ones. Serve on University, School, and Program committees while contributing to program growth through assessment, recruiting, and advising.

UT Southern is a small public university with over 1,000 students enjoying low student-teacher ratios and high classroom personalization. It offers nearly 30 academic programs across schools of business, education, arts, math and sciences, nursing, and social sciences. Located 70 miles south of Nashville, it provides a private college experience at public-university costs with UT System resources.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or a related discipline; ABD acceptable if all degree requirements complete by date of hire
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community
  • Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional judgment
  • Demonstrated teaching ability in undergraduate chemistry courses
  • Commitment to undergraduate research and student mentorship
  • Experience with course development or curriculum assessment

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of courses in Chemistry including Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Science
  • Teach in-person and occasionally online courses
  • Assist in the development of new courses and possible revisions of older courses
  • Serve on University, School, and Program committees
  • Provide academic and career advising of students
  • Conduct research and mentorship in Chemistry
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the program through assessment, recruiting, and advising efforts
