The Research Chemist supports the Quality Control Laboratory in providing accurate and precise results to internal and external stakeholders. This role ensures laboratory operations meet high standards of reliability and precision.

Daily responsibilities include managing, optimizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Execute complex procedures competently, resolve instrument non-conformances, and ensure accurate and timely completion of analytical testing. Critically evaluate results and participate in their interpretation when needed.

Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, plant operations, customer service, and sales to resolve issues and handle special requests. Interface with customers to address quality concerns and maintain relationships within the research group. Ensure the East Plant Laboratory conforms to ISO-9001 and RC-14001 requirements.

Generate ideas to address QC group priorities, write and update laboratory test procedures, and train analysts as needed. Set up and qualify new equipment, evaluate equipment needs, and advise on capital expenditures. Make changes and additions to the LIMS data system as necessary.

Requirements

  • 5 years of laboratory experience
  • Ability to define and implement ideas and solutions
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train on technical methods
  • Strong mathematical/laboratory skills
  • Computer competency including knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft Office and other required software
  • Good oral and written communications skills

Responsibilities

  • Assure areas of responsibility adhere to safety and environmental protocols for the laboratory and site
  • Maintain competency regarding key instrumentation and standard techniques, executing more complex procedures
  • Manage, optimize, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory procedures and instrumentation
  • Resolve instrument non-conformances and ensure accurate and timely completion of analytical testing
  • Critically evaluate analytical results and participate in interpretation when needed
  • Write new laboratory test procedures, update existing procedures, and train analysts
  • Set-up and qualify new equipment per QC Laboratory protocols
  • Collaborate with R&D and Engineering to resolve plant issues and interface with customers
