About this role
As a Product Development Chemist on the Urethane Additives Technology Team, you will play a key role in developing next-generation materials for polyurethane slabstock foam. Design, synthesize, and evaluate new additive technologies that enhance foam performance in comfort products like bedding and furniture, plus automotive, medical, and specialty markets.
Work hands-on in the lab to formulate, test, and optimize new chemistries. Collaborate with a global R&D network to bring innovative products from concept through commercialization. Your efforts will expand Momentive’s urethane additives portfolio and strengthen its polyurethane market position.
Partner with technical service, commercial teams, and North American customers to introduce new technologies. Provide technical insight and application support for the existing slabstock foam additive portfolio. Help customers optimize formulations and solve real-world foam manufacturing challenges.

Requirements
- Background in organic synthesis and characterization of chemical additives
- Experience formulating and testing polyurethane slabstock foam materials
- Knowledge of urethane additive technologies and foam performance optimization
- Proficiency in laboratory safety practices and EHS compliance
- Skills in project management for new product development initiatives
- Ability to analyze and translate lab discoveries into scalable solutions
- Familiarity with performance testing methods for foam applications
Responsibilities
- Lead laboratory development projects from concept through pilot-scale evaluation, designing and executing experiments on synthesis, characterization, and performance testing of new urethane additive technologies
- Maintain the highest safety standards in all laboratory activities, following and promoting rigorous safety practices while ensuring compliance with local regulations and company EHS policies
- Own and drive assigned New Product Development & Introduction (NPDI) projects, applying disciplined project management practices to manage timelines and achieve milestones
- Collaborate closely with the global Slabstock Technology team, maintaining strong relationships and aligning work with global R&D priorities
- Partner directly with selected slabstock foam customers across North America, introducing new urethane additive technologies and providing technical guidance for commercial adoption
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property by identifying innovative breakthroughs and supporting preparation of invention disclosures
