About this role
The Materials Engineering Group is responsible for materials safety, strategy and sustainability with ResMed’s product development groups globally. The Materials Technology and Compliance team works hand-in-hand with stakeholders to provide materials engineering consultation and bring materials science to daily practice. As a Senior Materials Engineer, champion cross-functional collaboration for critical materials decisions and product compliance.
Transform complex technical data into meaningful business information as the basis of day-to-day practice. Thrive in a speedy and agile environment, delivering creative solutions for complex problems. Influence senior stakeholders for better material decisions while supporting material substance compliance across the product portfolio.

Requirements
- Expertise in materials science with focus on polymers and chemical characterization
- Proficiency in diverse material characterization techniques (FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDS, mass-spectroscopy)
- Experience driving root-cause analysis using methodologies like Kepner Tregoe
- Strong knowledge of medical device materials and high-volume manufacturing constraints
- Familiarity with regulations such as REACH, ROHS, California Proposition 65, EU-MDR
- Ability to transform complex technical data into impactful business insights
- Proven cross-functional collaboration and senior stakeholder influence
- Technical writing skills for rigorous scientific documentation
Responsibilities
- Drive complex material risk assessments based on robust engineering justification and up-to-date field knowledge
- Design and implement material characterization test plans using techniques like FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDS, mass-spectroscopy
- Drive root-cause investigations (RCA) using tools such as Kepner Tregoe as Materials Engineering Subject Matter Expert
- Write complicated scientific documents using a methodical approach to build trust with readers
- Influence material selections for medical devices considering high volume manufacture constraints through cross-discipline collaboration
- Monitor standards and regulations including REACH, ROHS, California Proposition 65, EU-MDR and coordinate testing
- Execute material compliance with environmental regulations, assess impacts and coordinate regulatory responses
- Analyze multi-level BOMs with engineering teams to calculate material compositions
