About this role

AbbVie is seeking a Scientist I in Analytical Chemistry to join our team in North Chicago, Illinois. In this role, you will independently plan and perform method development, validation, execution, and assessment of results to support our mission of discovering and delivering innovative medicines.

Day-to-day responsibilities include resolving and troubleshooting routine scientific and technical issues, evaluating new technologies to solve scientific challenges, and documenting experimental activities in a GMP-compliant fashion using electronic data acquisition systems. You will also prepare protocols, reports, and quality, safety, and regulatory documents.

This position offers the opportunity to interact directly with partners outside the department and present results to local and global teams. You will work in a fast-paced team environment alongside interdisciplinary scientists and engineers, building strong relationships and demonstrating agility in triaging priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or equivalent education with 5+ years of experience, or Master's Degree or equivalent with 2+ years of experience.
  • Practical knowledge of modern peptide manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with chemical biology fundamentals and related analytical techniques including recombinant protein expression and purification, cell culture, immunoassays, and gels.
  • Understanding of cGMP and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in analytical techniques relevant to peptide product development including mass spectrometry, amino acid analysis, advanced separation techniques, and higher-order structure studies.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • High-quality written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan and perform method development, validation, execution, and assessment of results.
  • Resolve and troubleshoot routine scientific and technical issues independently.
  • Evaluate new technologies to solve scientific challenges or improve technological capabilities.
  • Document experimental activities and results in a GMP-compliant fashion using electronic data acquisition and management systems.
  • Prepare protocols and reports as well as quality, safety, and regulatory documents.
  • Interact directly with partners outside the department with minimum oversight.
  • Present results and actively engage with local and global teams.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, and GxP compliance.
