About this role

Materials science and technology are our passion. Empa's Laboratory for Advanced Fibers in St. Gallen pursues application-driven research in polymers and fibers. We work towards a new generation of hernia repair meshes with built-in local drug-delivery strategies to enhance post-surgical outcomes.

You will develop novel medical liquid-core fibers for drug-loaded hernia repair meshes. This involves materials development for MedTech applications using state-of-the-art synthesis and analytics. Daily work includes hands-on experimentation in polymer engineering focused on biomedical needs.

Collaborate with surgeons, engineers, chemists, and fiber technologists in an interdisciplinary team. The environment supports working across fields to advance scientific results. Publish findings for the scientific community while supervising students and interns.

Enjoy an international, highly stimulating research environment with excellent infrastructure. Benefit from personal and professional development in a culture of inclusion and respect. The two-year contract starts as soon as possible at Empa in St. Gallen.
