About this role

The Research Chemist contributes to CTSL competitive advantage by developing robust analytical methods. Responsibilities include maintaining and improving laboratory practices to ensure data integrity, repeatability, and reproducibility. This role drives innovation in analytical testing for chemical sciences.

Follow HSE procedures in plant and laboratory, operating safely while maintaining 5S practices and contributing to safety initiatives. Identify unmet testing demands and translate inputs from technology managers into test definitions. Develop and validate customized performance tests, optimizing procedures for accuracy, precision, and sensitivity.

Analyze experimental data to identify systematic and random errors, implementing strategies like instrument calibration to minimize bias. Provide technical leadership, training others on methods and mentoring junior chemists and technicians. Collaborate cross-functionally with global stakeholders and experts to troubleshoot issues and resolve testing problems.

Drive continuous improvement in laboratory efficiency, accuracy, and safety. Oversee method validation and stability studies adhering to industry standards and regulatory guidelines. Stay abreast of trends and emerging technologies to foster scientific excellence and meet business needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, master’s degree is a plus
Experience in testing method development, validation and verification
Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making
Analytical thinker with a passion for innovation and continuous learning
Passion for scientific inquiry and commitment to driving impactful results in a fast-paced environment
Ability to prepare and present technical reports, research findings, and testing updates to internal and external stakeholders

Responsibilities

Follow HSE procedures of plant and laboratory; operate safely, maintain 5S practices, and contribute to safety, housekeeping, environment, and process improvement initiatives
Identify unmet testing demand and translate input from technology development/deployment manager into test definition
Develop and validate customized performance tests; optimize existing analytical procedures for improved accuracy, precision, and sensitivity; ensure repeatability and reproducibility
Analyze experimental data including identifying and quantifying systematic and random errors; implement strategies to minimize systematic errors
Apply broad understanding of technical field to train others on analytical methods; provide technical leadership and mentor junior chemists and lab technicians
Collaborate cross-functionally with global counterparts, external labs, and experts to resolve testing problems; troubleshoot issues and optimize processes
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and safety; seek new applications and methods
Oversee testing method validation and stability studies, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory guidelines
