About this role

The QA Chemist ensures all QA laboratory activities comply with the company’s HSEQ procedures, meeting strategies and objectives. They manage lab operations efficiently and cost-effectively. Responsibilities include developing systems for workload prioritizing, overtime allocation, housekeeping, inventory control, equipment maintenance, and waste minimization.

Day-to-day duties involve setting up and maintaining the highest QA laboratory quality standards to verify raw materials and finished goods meet specifications. This includes ensuring technical competence of staff and accurate analytical results. Perform laboratory scale blending, issue work-off recommendations, and seek management approvals for write-offs.

Monitor polymer and inhibitor content in all monomer storage tanks. Maintain and calibrate equipment across four laboratories periodically. Collaborate with purchasing to evaluate new products and raw materials, establishing specifications, testing methods, and shelf lives.

Assist technical service by testing properties of competitor samples. Uphold good laboratory practices in a chemical manufacturing environment. Opportunities to enhance lab systems and contribute to compliance with ISO standards foster professional growth in quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry or other Science disciplines from a recognized institution
  • Preferably minimum of 1 year working experience
  • Technical related work experience in a chemical or manufacturing plant laboratory
  • Good knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 management systems
  • Conversant in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Mature with good interpersonal skills and able to work independently
  • Without color blindness problem

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all QA laboratory activities comply with the company’s HSEQ procedures and meet objectives
  • Control QA laboratory activities in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Develop effective laboratory management systems including workload prioritizing, overtime allocation, housekeeping, inventory control, equipment maintenance, and waste minimization
  • Set up and maintain QA laboratory quality system to ensure raw materials and finished goods meet specifications
  • Carry out laboratory scale blending, issue work-off recommendations, and seek approvals for write-offs
  • Establish new specifications, testing methods, shelf life, and evaluate new products and raw materials with purchasing
  • Monitor polymer content and inhibitor content of all monomers in storage tanks
  • Maintain and carry out periodic calibration of lab equipment for four laboratories
