About this role

Momentive seeks an experienced synthetic organic chemist to join the Tire and Rubber Technology Team as an intern. The successful candidate will have experience developing new synthetic routes for silane molecules to meet targeted performance requirements. They will work within a team of synthetic chemists and lead their program throughout the internship.

The intern will synthesize experimental silane molecules and optimize synthetic routes as needed. They will maintain an organized lab that adheres to all safety requirements and document experiments in an electronic lab notebook. Accountability for safely planning experiments and handling reagents is essential.

Collaboration with team members involves synthesizing, characterizing, shipping, and evaluating new molecules for performance. Participation in literature reviews builds expertise in the chemistry practiced. As an active team member, the intern will propose synthetic routes for target molecules and troubleshoot quality issues like coproducts and material compatibilities.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a PhD in Organic Chemistry or related field with an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2026 or Spring 2027
  • Completed Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
  • Strong synthetic organic chemistry skills
  • Silicon chemistry experience preferred
  • Actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at time of application and for at least one semester following internship
  • Available 40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks between May and August

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize experimental silane molecules
