About this role

The Research Chemist 1 position works with and reports to the Senior Scientist at LGC Clinical Diagnostics. This role supports the advancement of disease understanding to enable precision diagnostics through the development of multiplexed quality measurement tools.

Daily work involves carrying out laboratory procedures focused on toxicology and serology to serve the diagnostics and blood screening community. The chemist supports timelines and priorities while contributing to the team's workflow to meet customer needs.

This position operates within a collaborative team environment across FDA-registered and ISO-certified facilities. It requires working in BSL-2 and DEA regulated areas with appropriate personal protective equipment for handling potentially infectious materials.

Opportunities exist to support product updates and technical transfers while preparing reports and project reviews. The role encourages familiarity with relevant scientific literature to aid ongoing development projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, Chemistry, or a related area
  • Experience in laboratory environments, product development or technical operations
  • Agreeable to work in BSL-2 laboratory and DEA regulated areas with personal protective equipment for handling potentially infectious or hazardous material
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate projects to meet deadlines, solve problems and communicate effectively with supervisor
  • Able to work independently with guidance from senior scientist and thrive in a fast-paced environment adaptable to changes in development priorities
  • Accurate verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis and ability to articulate conclusions from data

Responsibilities

  • Support scientists with product development and manufacture of new products including IVD controls, reference materials, QC panels and other quality measurement tools
  • Support investigations and trouble-shooting activities for technical manufacturing issues
  • Characterize and validate product performance
  • Critically analyze data and aid in developing new product specifications with supervisor
  • Assist in technical transfers of products into manufacturing
  • Prepare project status reviews for internal seminars and meetings
  • Prepare summaries, internal reports and presentations
