Moses Lake, US · Full-time · $80,000 – $130,000

About this role

Moses Lake Industries is seeking an R&D Senior Scientist in Synthetic Chemistry to develop new products and enhance existing ones for the semiconductor and flat-panel screen industries. The role involves working independently and within teams under direction from supervisors or senior scientists to set priorities and requirements.

Daily work centers on researching and executing synthetic methods for target molecules while applying Design of Experiments methodologies. You will design efficient experiments with clear hypotheses, defined controls, and data-supported conclusions that address safety, scalability, and manufacturing considerations.

Hands-on laboratory responsibilities include assembling and maintaining equipment such as Schlenk lines, inert atmosphere chambers, rotary evaporators, and pressure vessels. All work areas must remain clean and organized while applying advanced chemical concepts including stoichiometry, multicomponent analysis, and process variable correlation.

MLI is a midsized company with a history of steady growth and profitability serving global leaders in high-technology markets. The position offers a fixed Monday-Friday schedule with flexibility typically between 6 am and 10 pm at the Moses Lake site.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field
  • Proficiency with common laboratory equipment including Schlenk lines, inert atmosphere chambers, and rotary evaporators
  • Experience applying Design of Experiments methodologies
  • Strong skills in statistical data analysis including ANOVA and statistical process control
  • Ability to generate clear, well-organized technical reports and procedures
  • Understanding of advanced chemical concepts including stoichiometry and process variable optimization

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to developing new products and enhancing existing products based on customer, market, or technology needs.
  • Research, develop, and execute synthetic methods for target molecules while balancing safety, IP strategy, cost, scalability, and risk.
  • Use Design of Experiments methodologies to design and execute experiments with clear problem statements, hypotheses, and data-supported conclusions.
  • Perform hands-on laboratory work including assembling, using, and maintaining glassware, Schlenk lines, inert atmosphere chambers, rotary evaporators, and pressure vessels.
  • Understand and apply complex chemical concepts such as balanced equations, stoichiometry, multicomponent mixture analysis, and identification of key process variables.
  • Analyze data using statistical methods including ANOVA, control limits, confidence intervals, and statistical process control methodologies.
  • Generate concise written summaries, procedures, and specifications that express ideas clearly with data-supported conclusions.
  • Drive troubleshooting and development of response-flow checklists using technical expertise.

Benefits

  • Work for a midsized company with a history of steady growth and profitability
  • Values-driven culture emphasizing Safety, Integrity, Ownership, Collaboration, Service, and Sustainability
