The Research Scientist plays a key role in the Medicinal Chemistry Scale-Up Group, working independently to synthesize small molecule drug candidates and intermediates on scales from multi-grams to hundreds of grams for evaluation. The role demands advanced experimental troubleshooting, process optimization, and execution of complex procedures. Resourcefulness and self-sufficiency drive success in achieving outcomes.

Daily work involves designing and executing synthetic experiments to deliver materials on tens to hundreds of grams scales for project teams. Independently develop, optimize, and scale up processes using large-scale glassware from 5L to 20L. Flexibility across scales ensures timely project support.

Collaborate within the Scale-Up Group for rapid material delivery, sharing knowledge and troubleshooting challenges. Systematically analyze complex data to provide actionable recommendations. Prepare detailed presentations communicating findings clearly to teams.

Stay current with scientific literature, integrating new methodologies and emerging technologies to enhance research. Explore novel approaches for project goals while maintaining diligent process safety and compliance. Contribute to patents and publications.

Requirements

Proven experience in a large-scale synthetic laboratory, delivering small molecule organic compounds
Proficiency in working with large-scale glassware (5L to 20L) and a flexible approach to working on a variety of scales
Strong synthetic chemistry expertise with a deep mechanistic understanding of reaction pathways
Demonstrated ability to perform advanced experimental troubleshooting and process optimization
Familiarity with process safety and hazard assessment, with a meticulous approach to safety practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset
Experience in identifying and implementing emerging technologies to advance research capabilities

Responsibilities

Design and execute experimental synthetic work to deliver materials on scales ranging from tens to hundreds of grams for local project teams
Independently develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic processes to meet project requirements
Work collaboratively within the Scale-Up Group to ensure the rapid delivery of materials
Share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to the continuous improvement of group processes
Systematically collate, analyze, and interpret complex data to generate actionable recommendations for project decisions
Prepare and deliver detailed study presentations communicating experimental findings and conclusions
Stay updated with relevant scientific literature and incorporate new insights into research activities
Demonstrate a diligent approach to process safety and ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards
