About this role

DuPont seeks a Lead Research Scientist for its Research & Development team at the Experimental Station facility in Wilmington, DE. This Synthetic Chemist role in the Electronics – Emerging Technologies Group focuses on new materials development at the forefront of innovation. The position offers collaboration across R&D Materials, Formulation, Development Engineering, and commercial teams to commercialize industry-leading products.

Synthesize, design, and develop small molecules, monomers, and polymers for electronics applications using multi-step synthetic organic and polymer chemistry. Utilize problem-solving techniques with multiple analytical and functional test procedures to identify and characterize material development barriers. Organize and share data while developing technical reports and presentations.

Participate in cross-functional teams to drive New Product Development from concept shaping and validation to scale-up and commercialization. Help establish project plans, monitor performance, and deliver program goals and objectives. Network internally and externally to identify technology leads and innovations for the Electronics business.

This role provides an excellent view into the entire Electronics business with opportunities to support various segments and work across technologies and projects. Create and secure intellectual property while collaborating with Product Stewardship and Regulatory for safe material evaluation. Expand and grow the business through cutting-edge contributions.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Chemistry or a related field that includes polymer and/or organic synthesis
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Material Science and/or Chemical R&D
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field that includes polymer and/or organic synthesis
  • Proven ability to innovate and define new approaches to solve complex problems
  • Proven ability to perform effectively in a fast paced, customer-focused business environment
  • Advanced technical expertise with polymer and small molecule design and synthesis with proven track record
  • Advanced understanding of analytical methods including polymer and film characterization techniques (GPC, NMR, IR, TGA, DSC)
  • Proven ability to demonstrate safe behavior in a laboratory with evaluation of safety risks in multigram scale multi-step syntheses
