About this role

The Research Scientist will play a key role in the Medicinal Chemistry Scale-Up Group, working with a high degree of independence to synthesize small molecule drug candidates and intermediates on scales from multi-grams to hundreds of grams for evaluation. The role requires advanced experimental troubleshooting, process optimization, and execution of complex procedures. Successful candidates demonstrate resourcefulness, self-sufficiency, and ability to design alternative approaches.

Design and execute experimental synthetic work to deliver materials on scales ranging from tens to hundreds of grams for local project teams. Independently develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic processes to meet project requirements. Proficiency with large-scale glassware from 5L to 20L supports flexible scale operations.

Work collaboratively within the Scale-Up Group to ensure rapid delivery of materials. Share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement of group processes. Strong interpersonal skills foster a team-oriented environment.

Systematically collate, analyze, and interpret complex data to generate actionable recommendations. Stay updated with scientific literature, incorporate new methodologies, and explore novel approaches. Demonstrate diligent process safety and contribute to patents or publications.

Requirements

Proven experience in a large-scale synthetic laboratory delivering small molecule organic compounds
Proficiency in working with large-scale glassware (5L to 20L) and flexible approach to various scales
Strong synthetic chemistry expertise with deep mechanistic understanding of reaction pathways
Demonstrated ability to perform advanced experimental troubleshooting and process optimization
Familiarity with process safety and hazard assessment with meticulous safety practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with collaborative team-oriented mindset
Experience identifying and implementing emerging technologies to advance research
